Job description
About us:
Pacifico Energy Group (PEG) is a privately held investment company that seeds and sponsors real asset-based companies. With controlling interests in renewable energy development platforms, vertically integrated independent power producers, and aviation companies around the globe, PEG plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of these sectors. PEG has a proven track record of seeding and scaling development platforms, including Pacifico Energy Japan—the largest solar developer in Japan.
In 2020, recognizing the challenges facing US utility-scale projects, PEG founded and seeded Pacifico Energy to target the behind-the-meter (BTM) and distributed generation (DG) markets. Pacifico Power is a U.S. focused energy infrastructure platform that delivers customized industrial scale energy solutions to companies and communities.
We are looking for an experienced Project Director to plan and oversee energy projects from initiation to completion.
As a Project Director, you will be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of multi-trade energy infrastructure projects — including natural gas, solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and hybrid systems. You will lead planning, pre-construction, procurement, execution oversight, and project closeout, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in alignment with technical and safety standards.
This role requires a strong blend of engineering acumen, construction expertise, project controls, and stakeholder management
The ideal candidate must be based in Dallas-Texas or in San Juan Capistrano-California. The candidate should be able to visit project sites in different states and company offices occasionally for in-person meetings as needed.
What you get to do:
Project Planning & Development:
Define project scope, feasibility, and technical requirements in coordination with engineering, development, and operations teams.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to finalize project specifications and constructability.
Conduct constructability reviews and evaluate logistics, site conditions, layouts, and commissioning readiness.
Support permitting and interconnection processes, coordinating with utilities and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
Budgeting, Estimating & Scheduling:
Develop and manage CAPEX and OPEX budgets, including detailed cost estimates and contingency tracking.
Create, review, and adjust project schedules and staffing plans to ensure timely project execution.
Monitor and report on project progress, budget, schedule, and HSE adherence.
Procurement & Contracting:
Prepare RFPs and bid packages for equipment (generators, switchgear, transformers, BESS containers) and subcontractors.
Evaluate vendor proposals and support negotiations to secure competitive pricing, scope alignment, and delivery schedules.
Perform full buyout of project scopes, ensuring clear contract terms and risk mitigation.
Execution & Construction Oversight:
Supervise construction activities via superintendents and field staff, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with design.
Hire and allocate responsibilities to subcontractors and internal teams.
Monitor resource needs (manpower, equipment, materials) and maintain inventory levels.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate project documentation including meeting minutes, daily reports, schedules, and financial trackers.
Provide senior leadership with comprehensive updates on project health, progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
Prepare turnover packages to transition projects from development to execution seamlessly.
Risk & Stakeholder Management:
Identify project risks across schedule, permitting, supply chain, and constructability, and develop mitigation strategies.
Collaborate cross-functionally with development, finance, legal, engineering, and external parties (utilities, OEMs, contractors).
Job requirements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
15+ years of experience in construction project management within energy, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
Experience managing complex multi-trade construction projects with significant electrical and/or mechanical scopes.
Proficiency in pre-construction activities, including estimating, procurement strategy, permitting, and contract management.
Demonstrated success in full-cycle project delivery, from planning through execution and closeout.
In-depth understanding of project controls, scheduling (Primavera, MS Project), and budgeting principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Direct experience with gas generation (reciprocating engines, turbines), solar, BESS, or Data Center projects.
PMP certification or equivalent project management credentials.
Familiarity with EPC and subcontractor contracts, including scope definition and commercial negotiation.
Experience working with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar project management software.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Leadership and team coordination skills in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
High attention to detail, documentation, and risk-aware decision-making.
Knowledge of quality standards, safety regulations, and construction best practices.
Travel Requirements:
Willingness to travel to project sites as needed for project oversight and coordination.
