We are seeking a Drafter/Junior Project Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and proactive individual who is eager to develop technical expertise in the renewable energy field. The Drafter/Junior Project Engineer will assist in preparing detailed construction drawings, technical documentation, and perform design support for BTM and DG projects. This individual will collaborate closely with project engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to help bring projects from concept to completion.
What you get to do:
Create and maintain technical drawings, schematics, single line drawings, and layouts for power generation and renewable energy systems.
Support the engineering team in designing site layouts, electrical plans, and structural details for solar, storage, microgrid, and other power generation projects.
Assist with project documentation, including bill of materials (BOM), equipment selection, and construction packages.
Conduct and/or coordinate site visits to survey existing electrical and mechanical infrastructure information for the design and installation phases of projects, as required.
Perform NEC compliant technical calculations to support design criteria, including load, voltage drop, and interconnection analysis.
Study design manuals, datasheets, and specifications to ensure compliance with manufacturer (Tesla, BYD, other) multidisciplinary engineering packages are produced.
Collaborate with the Principal Engineer, Senior Engineering manager and other team members to develop and refine engineering standards and best practices.
Update and organize project files, drawings, and other documentation in project management software.
Assist with permitting, compliance, and technical reports as needed for project approvals and regulatory requirements.
Job requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, other), Drafting, or a related technical field; or equivalent experience.
1+ years of experience in drafting, CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit), or a related engineering role, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, Microsoft Excel, and a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems within the context of renewable energy projects.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with renewable energy projects, particularly in solar, energy storage, and distributed generation.
Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory requirements for energy infrastructure projects.
Working knowledge of project management software (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Project, Asana, Smartsheet)
Familiarity with Energy Modeling software: Heliocope, PVSyst, SAM, or other
NABCEP certification or interest in pursuing
EIT (Engineer in Training) certification or a commitment to pursuing professional engineering licensure
